Castilla y León: 10 Days

Town in Spain

This tour combines the important cities in the Madrid area with the northern capitals and natural beauty of the coast.

Depart: New York, Overnight Flight

Day 2

Madrid (2 nights): transport to hotel. Walking tour of historic district and time to unwind from flight.

Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Mercado de San Martin. Discover all the hidden treasures of the historic section of Madrid: tapas, cafés and great shops.
Tour El Palacio Real or El Prado Museum: Spend the day with your guide sharing her incredible knowledge of the Royal Palace and one of the most important museums in Europe. The Spanish masters will come alive with this tour.

Day 3

Day trip to Toledo:  Spend the day in the first Capital of Spain.  Walking tour of this city on a hill. Experience the historic influence of the different ethnicities that lived in harmony in this beautiful city.  Tour the Cathedra, the most impressive in Spain, San Tomé Church the works of el Greco and the Zamorano Sword making company. Return late afternoon to Madrid.

Day 4

León: Founded by the sixth Roman Legion this beautiful capital city nestled at the base of the Picos de Europa boasts one of the most impressive gothic cathedrals with incredible stained glass windows, El Botín by Gaudí and the lively Bario humedo.  Cosmepolitin yet small town feel.  You can really get to know the Spanish culture here.

Day 5

Walking tour of city.

Day 6

Las Cuevas de Valporquero:  Day trip into the Picos de Europa where a guide will lead you in an exploration the deep and incredibly beautiful caves filled with multiple galleries of stalactites and stalagmites.

Day 7-8

Gijón:  Spend two days on the Bay of Biscay in the Capital of Asturias. One of the earliest settlements on the Iberian Peninsula artifacts from 5000 BC, Roman, Visigoth and Muslim influence.  Guided tour of all the important sites, Visit the Aquarium of Gijon and unwind on the beautiful beaches. The northern coast is impressive transitioning form green mountains to coast in just a few miles.

Day 9

Segovia:  Spend your last night in Segovia home of the most impressive Roman aqueduct and the Alcazar, inspiration of Disney’s castle. Enjoy a walking tour and spend the night in this quaint city right on la plaza mayor.  Venture out and try the famous cochinillo or lechazo.  Famous dishes of this region.

Day 10

Depart Segovia to Barajas airport and return to USA.
